When over a year ago I was working on setting up wireless access point, that was really tough task. I would never thought that one day I would be able to do the same just with my TV remote and on… OpenELEC!
Ok, so here is the World’s easiest way to set up your own AP.
Hardware:
You must have wifi USB adapter with the right chipset. Which chipset is the right one? I can’t give you exact list as I do not know it, but definitely USB WiFi adapter with RT5370 chip worked for me. You can buy one at Lightberry.eu/shop (feel free to visit Lightberry.eu as well :) ).
You may need powered USB HUB – that depends on the wifi device and the power supply you have for the Raspberry pi.
Once you got the hardware
Software:
Install OpenELEC (I won’t describe how to do this, as I won’t be able to do it as well as openelec guys on their website).
In Kodi (yes, in Kodi :) ) go to SYSTEM -> OpenELEC -> Network
First turn on Wireless Networks -> Active
Then turn on Enable 'tethered' Wireless Access Point
Enter your Access Point name (OpenELEC-AP
is the default)
Change default passphrase for your AP, just to make it more secure.
Believe it or not, you are done!
